Jesus Christ 1877 - Artist unknown
This image started to appear to me from 24 July 2022 during my Communion with Jesus prayer ---> . It stays with me for the entire 1½ - 2 hours. I researched and found the image on Google on 13th August 2022.
Holy Spirit has quickened the reading and analysis of this painting to me:
1)
Arm raised to heaven Jesus worshiped God all the time.
In Luke 4:8, when Satan tempted him Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’'
He frequently found quiet places to pray alone. "Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed". [Luke 14:35]
Jesus should always be our role model.
2)
Hand pointing to his heart, Jesus lived his own teachings on love of God's people:
throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus showed his love for others by blessing and serving the poor, the sick, and the distressed.
He told His disciples:
12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. [John 15:12[
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” [John 13: 34-35]
Jesus should always be our role model.
3)
Jesus wore quality clothes
Observe and analyse the splendour and opulence of Jesus in this painting Jesus dressed in this way when he was here on earth. It is half truth to leave this fact out of his crucifixion story focusing instead on how he was crucified naked.
Jesus is our role model. Dress in your best clothes when you serve God.
Scripture reference [John 19:23- 24]
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer clothes and made four parts, a part for each soldier, and also the tunic. But the [j]tunic was seamless, woven [in one piece] from the top throughout [quality garment that took extra time to make and worn by the high priest in Jerusalem's temple]. 24 So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it will be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture, “They divided My outer clothing among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” 25 So the soldiers did these things.
Quality clothing
When the soldiers sought to divide the coat or tunic of Jesus, they saw it was not a patchwork of pieces sewn together. It had no seams, which meant it was a quality garment that took extra time to make. This is why lots were used so that only one of the soldiers would receive this "prize." The garment was the same quality of clothing, woven from top to bottom in one piece, worn by the high priest in Jerusalem's temple.
The first century Jewish historian Josephus stated in his book "Antiquities (History) of the Jews" that the temple's high priest had to wear clothes (a vestment) colored blue. This clothing was not made by pieces of cloth sewn together, or even two large pieces. It was, instead, one long vestment that was parted along the breast and back.
Unlike clothing made from pieces and thus easier to tear up, the coat worn by Jesus would have been harder to separate into pieces.
Additionally, the act of trying to divide such a seamless coat would likely make any pieces frayed and useless. The soldiers knew these facts and therefore decided to cast lots to leave it to time and chance to determine who got the entire garment. [Extract from Bible Study]
