Luke 11
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
1 Timothy 2:1
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
We are taught by the Catholic Church to pray for ourselves and others using fingers of the hand as a guide.
Thus we should pray in this order:
Thumb - Start by praying for your loved ones and those closest to you i.e. your family.
Forefinger- Those who have contributed to your progress and welfare in life. This includes people like your past and present teachers and divine helpers.
Middle finger - Those in authority like the Prime Minister, head of the police force, military etc.
Ring finger - Those who need to lean on others i.e. those who are vulnerable e.g. the sick, people made homeless, suffered natural disaster
Small finger - After we have prayed for everyone else we then pray for own needs.
Jesus taught us the contents of the prayers.
The Holy Spirit continues in our days to reveal specific wordings for prayers.
Prayers to start your day
Upon rising each morning enlist the angels of God to guard and lead you.
Say 7:
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning
It's now
And ever shall be
World without end.
Amen.
Followed by:
Angel of God, my guardian angel, to whom God's love commit me here ever this day be at my side to light and guard to rule and to guard Amen.
Or you can pray like this:
Bless you the Lord you his angels, who excel in strength, who heed the voice of the word of God. I charge you this day to watch over me and my family and all of the things that God has blessed us with. In all we do today, go ahead of us on every road we pass to keep all evil afar from us; remove all barriers, danger, ill intent and lose from our path. Minister the blessings of God to us and help us complete all the tasks that need to be done today in Jesus name. Amen.
Ask for specific help from the angels like:
Angels please help my brother to remember all that he has revised for his exam paper today. Guide him well on what needs to be done.
Angels please clear all the obstacles in my sister's way so she can receive her items from the suppliers today.
Angels please help me to see clearly where I should put in more effort today.
My Angel thank you.
To conclude say One Our Father, One Hail Mary and One Glory be.
Our Father
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
You can now begin your morning prayers.
Open your prayers with a simple confession like:
Father God Almighty I confess that I have sinned in my thoughts, and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do. I repent of all my sins and forsake them. I ask you Father Lord to forgive me, I know by the Cross of your Son Christ Jesus I am forgiven. Thank you for forgiving me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Or
Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, O God, in Your lovingkindness;
In Your compassion blot out my offence.
O Wash me thoroughly from my guilt
And cleanse me from my sin.
My offences truly I know them;
My sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned;
And done that which is evil in Your sight.
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
Put a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your help;
And sustain me with a spirit of fervour.
O Lord, open my lips,
That my mouth may declare Your praise.
Now praise God using the Golden arrow prayer below:
Father God I bless you,
Father God I love you,
Father God I adore you,
Father God I glorify and praise your,
Most sacred, most adorable,
Most incomprehensible and ineffable Name,
O God Most High,
I thank you for all things.
In Jesus name I pray Amen.
You can now make your day's petitions following the fingers of the hand steps.
1) Pray for your family and loved ones
You can pray Psalm 23 and 91 and add:
Lord God Almighty please encamp your ministering angels around my family to guide and guard them. Pray on specific needs for your family and loved ones. What do they need? What do they need to do today? What are they worried about? What are they hopeful of?
Example: Loving Lord please let my grandad's operation today to remove the cataract in his eye be successful. Thank you.
2) For people who have helped you in the past
I pray for my divine helpers ( mention their names if you remember them) who have helped to advance me;
The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
(Numbers 6:24-26)
With this prayer I have put the name of God upon You and he will bless You mightily in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
3) For Those in Authority. [Get your prayer points from the news]
I pray for the Prime Minister and his ministers. Loving God, please send your ministering angels to support the PM as he negotiates Brexit, let them remove all barriers to the negotiations so that our PM can get the best deal for our country and citizens. Lord God, the PM is visiting the clothes factory today, please let his visit be a blessing to all the workers there to make working conditions better for them. Loving God please also give the PM wisdom to be successful for all the citizens' welfare and prosperity. Amen and thank you.
4) For everyone [Get your prayer points from the news.]
Loving Father I pray for help for all those affected by the current flood in the north of the country. May they return home soon with minimum loss. I pray for the Live events taking place this weekend in the Commons, please deploy angels to keep all those who attend safe and keep those with mal-intents away. For all those travelling to a different country on holiday, Loving Father please deploy Protection angels to keep everyone safe and back home safely. Thank you.
Loving Father I pray for everyone who lives in my local area and those who go to my church. I pray for everyone in need and in difficulty in every nation of the world needing healing and deliverance. I ask that you will make this happen for them and grant them your peace in Jesus name. Amen. Thank you Lord.
5) Now pray for yourself
Loving Lord, I now humbly pray for my own special needs.
Share with God what is currently on your mind. What do you need help with? Remember ask and you shall receive. Do not forget to give God a time frame e.g. today, this week, this month, this year.
Also remember Jesus said we should persevere until we get an answer. This means pray on each point until something changes [Luke 11:8].
Do not overlook the power of midnight prayers. Jesus shows us this in Luke 11: 5 - 8. His message is, if you are determined to get a result, try midnight prayers and persevere in asking God.
Conclude your prayers with:
I thank you Loving Lord for answered prayers.
In Jesus name I/we pray.
Amen.
Thank God for answering your prayers
Use this bible verse (Psalm 118:21) in your own words:
I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.
[Mention what you are thankful for].
Thank you Lord God Almighty for my answered prayers through the Holy Spirit and in union with Christ Jesus. Amen.
Short prayer version
You may not want to pray to all five fingers in the same day. You can use a weekly prayer plan like follows:
Sunday: (The Parish)
Dear Lord show me and other parishioners a way to use our talents in the service and work of the church this week.
Monday: (Yourself)
Open your week by praying for courage and strength to face the new week. I am moving schools this week, Dear Lord, let my divine helpers come forth to assist me. Amen.
Tuesday: (Your family)
Dear Lord I pray for spirit of friendship and love amongst my family members. let there be lots of laughter in my home this week. Amen.
Wednesday: (Authority)
Dear Lord please support our Prime Minister this week in all the decisions he has to take for the benefit of all citizens. Please guide him to contribute well in the G7 meeting taking place in France this week. Help him and all the other leaders to take good decisions regarding our planet and all the peoples. Help this meeting to be successful for all the leaders. Amen.
Thursday: For God's kingdom of the whole world. Dear Lord, help all nations to be at peace with each other. I pray for justice, peace, prosperity and joy for every world citizen. Amen.
Friday: (The Church)
Loving God please bless all churches across the world with good priests and ministers who will work to the glory of God at all times. Amen.
Saturday: Compose novena / evangelism intentions for the day.
You can remember any close relative or friend you have not prayed for this week in this. Loving Lord please grant quick recovery to my best friend who recently had a fall.
During the day
Invoke divine assistance. Pray the following as many times as you feel the need during the day:
Jesus Mercy, Mary Help.
or
Lord God Almighty please strengthen me.
Before going to Bed.
Psalm 23, Psalm 91
Angel of God,
My guardian angel,
Upon the word of God,
During this night,
Be at my side,
To keep all sleep disturbances,
And bad dreams away,
So I can sleep peacefully.
Amen.
Angels of God seize every demon within walking distance of this place. Thank you.

St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray;
and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly host,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
Recite each morning:
Psalm 91
I dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "God is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I shall trust."
Surely God will save me from the hunter's trap and the deadly pestilence. God will cover me with loving arms, and in God's shadow I will find refuge; God's loyalty will be my shield and rampart. I will not fear the terror of the night; the arrows that fly by day; the pestilence that stalks the darkness; nor the plague that destroys at noon. A thousand may fall at my right hand, but it won't come near. I will only observe and see the punishment of the wicked.
Since making the Most High a life-time dwelling - the same Lord who is Israel's refuge - no harm will befall me, no disaster will come near my home. For God will command the angels to guard me in all ways; they'll lift me in their hands, so that my feet won't strike against a stone. I will stomp the beast and the serpent; trampling them underfoot.
"Because You love Me," says the Lord, "I will rescue and protect You, because You know My name. You will call upon me, and I will answer; I will be with You in troubled times, I will deliver and honor You with long life. I will satisfy You my child, and show You My salvation."
